Call for Abstracts: WVSA and RC20 Comparative Sociology Panels at the XXI ISA World Congress of Sociology 2027
The two sessions are organised within RC20 Comparative Sociology and are particularly relevant to scholars working with World Values Survey data and other comparative survey sources.
Measuring and Comparing Social and Political Values and Attitudes in Turbulent Times

This session addresses the challenges and opportunities involved in measuring and comparing social and political values and attitudes across societies and over time. It welcomes contributions addressing substantive as well as methodological questions, including the measurement, validity and cross-cultural comparability of values and attitudes; longitudinal and multilevel analysis; the harmonisation of comparative survey data; and changing patterns of social and political values in periods of rapid societal transformation. Research based on the World/European Values Survey, used independently or in combination with other comparative data sources, is particularly welcome.
Trust and Social Capital in Cross-Cultural Perspective: Examining the Key Indicators and Newest Trends

This session invites comparative research on trust and social capital across different social, political and cultural contexts. Contributions may examine interpersonal and institutional trust, social capital, and civic engagement and participation. They may also address the determinants and consequences of these phenomena, as well as recent changes in these indicators across countries and over time. Research using WVS/EVS data is particularly welcome, especially studies of emerging trends in trust and social capital and their implications for societies undergoing political, economic and social change.
Submission details
Abstracts of no more than 300 words must be submitted by 14 October 2026, 23:59 UTC/GMT, through the ISA Conference System (https://isaconf.confex.com/isaconf/wc2027/cfp.cgi), which requires an ISA account. Each abstract must be assigned to the specific RC20 Comparative Sociology session to which the author wishes to apply, and only abstracts submitted through the ISA Conference System will be considered. Authors will be notified of the selection outcome on 4 December 2026. The Congress will take place in person only, from 4 to 10 July 2027 in Gwangju, Republic of Korea.
